Reminiscence & Life Stories

Half-day Workshop
Cost: $55 + GST per person

Reminiscence and life stories support the sharing of wisdom, the leaving of a legacy and the seeking of peace – all tasks of ‘Elderhood’. Reminiscing helps us to make connections with a person – their past, present and future – and life stories can help unlock the ‘voice’ of a person with dementia.

This workshop provides people who work in dementia care environments with the knowledge and skills to engage in reminiscing and create a life story book with a person with dementia, with the support of their families and friends.

Participants will have an opportunity to:
· Learn strategies to encourage and support reminiscing and discover the rich and complex patterns of people’s lives;
· Identify key points for creating a life story; and
· Identify opportunities for using life stories as a communication tool with people with dementia.

Who should attend this workshop?
Anyone working in aged or community care, health care or community services who would like to improve their interaction with people with dementia.

Duration:
3 hour interactive workshop.
