Care workersCare workers share the caring role with families and friends and therefore need support and understanding in this demanding role. Effective training equips them with practical strategies. Care workers work in a range of services including day centres, home help services, residential facilities and hospitals. They include personal care attendants, nurses, volunteers, meals preparation staff, gardeners, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, podiatrists and doctors. Some people with dementia have no family carers and rely heavily on community services for their health, safety and social interaction. It is important that these care workers are educated to understand the dementia process and how it affects a person's ability to think and function. Short introductory workshops and more intensive courses are available while individually designed workshops can be presented to staff in their workplace.
