Carer Support Groups

The Support Services department of Alzheimer's Australia WA provides counselling services, information and carer support groups for carers of people with dementia.

How to Join a Carer Support Group?

A range of Carer Support Groups are held monthly throughout metropolitan and regional WA and usually last for two hours.

Benefits of Support

Through regularly attending Carer Support Groups participants should be able to:

  • Receive mutual support and meet others in a similar situation;
  • Receive relevant education/information at a time when it is most needed;
  • Enjoy the benefits of a social outing;
  • Share ideas, management tips and techniques with other carers;
  • Learn about local community services which exist for people with dementia and their carers;
  • Exercise greater control in their lives by dealing with specific issues such as loss and grief, guilt, resentment, anger, relief and a range of other emotions which may arise;
  • Learn coping mechanisms and techniques such as stress management and relaxation etc; and
  • Assist in creating public awareness of the disease, plus an understanding throughout the community of the role of carers.
