Delivery and Assessment

Delivery and Assessment

Training will be delivered at our training facility in Shenton Park, as well as other sites as requested.  These other sites can include places of work, residential care and community care facilities, as well as public meeting places, thus enabling a greater number and variety of people to attend our training sessions.  Organisations find it very convenient to invite us to deliver training at their site as it allows more of their staff to attend and it reduces the cost of training for them.

Training Delivery

Education Officers with Alzheimer's WA are committed to providing a high standard of competency based training.  They use a variety of teaching styles and media in order to meet the differing needs and levels of understanding of participants.  These include information sessions, overhead projections, workshop notes, videos, carers' experiences, open discussion, questions and answer sessions, small group and individual work, role-plays and case studies.

Disciplinary Procedures

Education Staff will encourage involvement from participants during the training sessions therefore it is very important that each participant is able to express their view without being criticised by other participants.  Ground rules will be set regarding being respectful towards other participants as well as any clients who may be referred to (participants will be reminded about the need for confidentiality).  Clients should not be identified.  Should participants not abide by these ground rules, Education Staff will remind them that their comment/behaviour is inappropriate and may ask the individual to leave if the situation cannot be resolved.

Assessment

The only formal assessment conducted by Education Officers is for participants completing the dementia specific unit of competency (CHCAC15A – provide support which is responsive to the specific nature of dementia).  The other training sessions, Family Carers' Course and a variety of workshops, are not formally assessed.  However, Education Officers still regularly gather feedback from participants in these sessions and use the feedback to adjust the content and style of each course and workshop.

If you find it difficult to write in English or have any other disability which makes it difficult to complete this assessment, please speak to an Education Officer who will assist you identify a different way to submit your assessment.

Skills Recognition

Alzheimer's WA is aware of the need for skills recognition of its training participants and is keen to co-operate with formal assessment of their competencies.  Education Officers encourage participants to think broadly about their experiences and apply for skills recognition.  Skills recognition may take the form of a formal assessment of a specific unit of competency or assessment of a range of evidence from experiences and training.  Alzheimer's WA Education Officers are qualified Workplace Assessors.

Participant Records

The following records are kept of training participants:

  • name and contact details;
  • course attended and date;
  • record of competency attained, date attained and certificate number;
  • the original assessment feedback sheet (participants receive their assessment and a copy of assessment feedback sheet).

In accordance with legislation, Alzheimer's Australia WA Ltd retains participant records for 30 years.

Continuous Improvement

Training participants will evaluate each course / workshop.  The Manager, Education Services will review, collate and record all the comments from participants.  These will be used to monitor and modify the training on an ongoing basis.  Alzheimer's WA is very keen to provide the most effective, relevant and practical training it can to participants.
